A climatology of wintertime low-level jets in Nares Strait

چکیده
Intense, southward low-level winds are common in Nares Strait, between Ellesmere Island and northern Greenland. The steep topography along Strait leads to channelling effects, resulting an along-strait flow. This research study presents a 30-year climatology of the flow regime from simulations COSMO-CLM climate model. available for winter periods (November–April) 1987/88 2016/17, thus, cover period long enough give robust long-term characteristics Strait. horizontal resolution 15 km is high represent complex terrain meteorological conditions realistically. shows that LLJs associated with gap flows climatological feature maximum mean 10-m wind speed around 12 m s-1 and located at southern exit Smith Sound. strongly related pressure gradient. Lincoln Sea and Nares Strait
A winter phenomenon of ice break-up takes place in Lincoln Sea every year. A previous study based on ERS-1 SAR data has been resumed based on Radarsat data that is briefly reported here. The study of two winters, 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, is supported by wind data. It is found that the ice motion in the area often is driven by wind but also that it is seriously influenced by blocking at the entr...
متن کاملClimatology of nocturnal low-level jets over North Africa and implications for modeling mineral dust emission
[1] This study presents the first climatology for the dust emission amount associated with Nocturnal Low-Level Jets (NLLJs) in North Africa. These wind speed maxima near the top of the nocturnal boundary layer can generate near-surface peak winds due to shear-driven turbulence in the course of the night and the NLLJ breakdown during the following morning. The associated increase in the near-sur...
متن کاملAlgebraic Matching of Vulnerabilities in a Low-Level Code
This paper explores the algebraic matching approach for detection of vulnerabilities in binary codes. The algebraic programming system is used for implementing this method. It is anticipated that models of vulnerabilities and programs to be verified are presented as behavior algebra and action language specifications. The methods of algebraic matching are based on rewriting rules and techniques...
متن کاملassessment of the low level jets effects on mcss formation in the southwest iran
introduction the most notable convective systems are mesoscale convective systems (mcss). these systems are developed when clouds occurring in response to convective instability organize upscale into a single cloud system with a very large cirriform cloud structure and rainfall covering large contiguous areas (houz, 2004). detection and monitoring of mcss is very important in southwest iran be...
